What we do in Dover

New tyres supplied and fitted

At your home in Buckland, Tower Hamlets or Elms Vale, at work on the White Cliffs Business Park at Whitfield or in a car park in town. Budget, mid-range and premium brands for cars, vans and 4x4s.

Puncture repairs

To British Standard BS AU 159 for the screws, nails and lorry debris that end up in tyres on the A2, the A20 and Townwall Street.

24-hour emergency call-outs

For drivers heading for a ferry, cars left in the long-stay car parks, and anyone stranded on Jubilee Way or the A20 at Aycliffe after dark.

Wheel balancing and TPMS sensor resets

With every tyre, so the car is steady on the A2 to Canterbury and the pressure warning light stays off.

Locking wheel nut removal

When the key is lost or rounded off, with a standard nut fitted in its place so the wheel comes off easily next time.

Recovery when a tyre cannot be fitted

At the roadside, for example a wheel cracked by a pothole on Folkestone Road. Our car towing and recovery service covers Dover, Deal, Folkestone and the A2 and M20.

CT16 and CT17

Dover town and Whitfield

CT15

St Margaret's, Guston, Alkham and the villages

CT14

Deal, Walmer and Kingsdown

Dover sits in a steep valley, and a lot of its housing is on hills with on-street parking, so bringing the tyre to the car is far easier than limping to a garage on a flat. We cover the town centre, the seafront and Western Heights, Tower Hamlets, Buckland, Maxton, Elms Vale and Aycliffe, the newer estates at Whitfield, and River, Kearsney and Temple Ewell up the Dour valley.

Out of town we fit regularly in St Margaret's-at-Cliffe, Kingsdown, Capel-le-Ferne, Alkham, Guston, Lydden, Shepherdswell and Eythorne, plus Deal and Walmer to the north and Hawkinge and Folkestone to the west. Dover's CT15, CT16 and CT17 postcode districts are all covered, and so are the CT14 Deal postcodes. If you are not sure, contact us or call and we will tell you straight away.

Puncture on the Way to the Port of Dover?

The Port of Dover is the busiest ferry port in the country, and when the A20 is being held by Dover TAP at Aycliffe or Operation Brock is running on the M20, a flat tyre can cost you your sailing. Call us as soon as you notice the problem. Tell us your check-in time and whether you are on the A2 coming down Jubilee Way or on the A20 from Folkestone, and we will tell you honestly whether a fitter can reach you in time. We can meet you on the approach roads, at Whitfield or in a car park in town; inside the Eastern Docks the port's own marshals decide where a vehicle can be worked on.

Coming off a ferry with a slow puncture after a long drive through France is just as common. We can fit a replacement in Dover before you join the A2 or M20 home, and if the tyre is beyond saving we can recover the car rather than let you risk the motorway on a space-saver spare.

Why tyres fail in Dover

Steep hills and heavy braking

Jubilee Way, Castle Hill, Whitfield Hill and the climb to Western Heights wear the front tyres faster than flat roads do. Low tread on the fronts plus a wet descent is a bad combination, so check them before winter.

Lorry debris on the A2 and A20

Shed tread, steel wire and dropped fixings from port traffic litter the A2 between Lydden and the docks and the A20 through Aycliffe. Most of the punctures we repair in Dover are tread punctures from this kind of debris.

Potholes and flints

Chalk subsoil and heavy rain mean Folkestone Road, London Road, Coombe Valley Road and the lanes out to St Margaret's and Alkham break up every winter. A flint can cut a sidewall, which means a new tyre rather than a repair.

Cars left standing

Vehicles parked up for weeks while their owners are away on the ferry, or kept for the summer at caravan sites along the coast, lose pressure and develop flat spots and cracked sidewalls. We check the date code and sidewall condition on every visit.

How a call-out works

1

Call or WhatsApp with your tyre size and your postcode. The size is printed on the sidewall, for example 205/55 R16. If you cannot read it, send a photo of the sidewall and your registration and we will look it up.

2

We quote a fixed price that includes the tyre, fitting, balancing, a new valve, disposal of the old tyre and VAT, then agree a time. For emergencies in Dover we aim for 30 to 60 minutes; booked jobs are usually same day or next day.

3

The fitter arrives in a fully equipped van, fits and balances the tyre next to the car, checks the pressures on the other three and takes the old tyre away for recycling through a licensed waste carrier.

Questions people in Dover ask

How quickly can you reach me in Dover?

For emergency call-outs in Dover town, Whitfield, River and Aycliffe we aim for 30 to 60 minutes, allowing for port traffic on the A20 and A2. Booked fittings are usually same day or next day. We give you an honest arrival time when you call, not a guess.

I have a ferry booked. Can you fit a tyre before I sail?

Often, yes. Call as soon as you find the problem and tell us your check-in time. If we cannot get to you in time we will say so, and we can still help when you are back or arrange recovery. Once you are inside the Eastern Docks you must follow the port's instructions.

Do you cover the villages outside Dover?

Yes. St Margaret's-at-Cliffe, Kingsdown, Guston, Alkham, Temple Ewell, Lydden, Shepherdswell, Eythorne, Capel-le-Ferne and the Deal and Walmer side are all regular trips for us. Rural lanes are no problem for the van.

What if I am stopped on the A2 or A20 near Dover?

Get everyone out of the car and well away from the traffic, then call us. We attend the A2, A20, A256 and A258 around Dover 24 hours a day. If the verge or hard shoulder is not safe to work on, we recover the car to a safer place first and fit the tyre there.

Can you repair the puncture or do I need a new tyre?

If the hole is in the central tread area and the tyre has not been run flat, we repair it to BS AU 159 for a flat fee. Sidewall cuts from flints, bulges from potholes and tyres driven on while flat cannot be repaired safely, and we will tell you before we start.

Do you fit lorry tyres at the port?

No. We fit car, van and 4x4 tyres only, and we are happy to attend drivers' own cars parked at Whitfield or on sites around the port where the operator allows access. For commercial HGV tyres you will need a truck tyre specialist.

Stuck right now?

Do not wait at the roadside wondering who to call. One phone call gets a fitter or recovery truck on the way.
